Cervical incompetence in the early first trimester of a primigravida woman is not easily to diagnose, especially when there is no previous problem of repeated miscarriage. Ultrasonic finding is not always easy to confirm whether the incompetence truly occurs.
It is therefore, confirmation of cervical incompetence has to be based on: history of previous repeated miscarriage; weakness of cervical canal as found by bimanual examination; US findings describing a loose appearance of the canal gap.
